Volvo Buses strengthens its coach offer in Europe with the return of the Volvo 9700 offering enhanced comfort, fuel efficiency and advanced driver support technologies.
Volvo Buses is bringing back one of its most recognized coach models to the European market with the launch of the Volvo 9700. Combining premium passenger comfort, fuel-efficient performance and enhanced driver support with a comprehensive package of services, support and financing, the Volvo 9700 is designed to meet the needs of both long-distance line-haul operations and charter services.
A range of Volvo coaches for Europe
In parallel to the Volvo 9700, Volvo is electrifying the coach segment with the Volvo BZR Electric chassis which represents a strong offer with the Carrus Delta coach body – the Volvo BZR Electric CD. Volvo has also formed a new partnership with body builder Marcopolo, adding a new premium coach in Europe – the Volvo B13R – Marcopolo Paradiso G8.
“We are determined to grow in the European coach segment with an attractive and competitive range”, says Anna Westerberg, President Volvo Buses. “Customers demand solutions that combine passenger comfort with safety, efficiency and reliable support throughout the vehicle’s lifetime. Our expanded offer is designed around those priorities.”
Production of the Volvo 9700 is already underway at Volvo Buses’ manufacturing facility in Tultitlán, Mexico, with customer deliveries scheduled to begin late 2026. The first Volvo BZR Electric CD coaches have already reached customers and the order book for the Volvo B13R – Marcopolo Paradiso G8 is growing with customer demand in Southern Europe.
The Volvo 9700 – an efficient premium coach with improved comfort
The return of the Volvo 9700 marks a significant expansion of Volvo Buses’ coach offering, providing customers with a versatile and productive solution that delivers high standards of safety, comfort and operational efficiency.
“We are pleased to bring the Volvo 9700 back to Europe. It is a coach that has earned a strong reputation among operators, drivers and passengers for many years,” says Thomas Nylund, Vice President Europe at Volvo Buses. “With improved ride comfort, advanced safety features and excellent fuel efficiency, the Volvo 9700 is well suited for today’s demanding coach operations.”
A key innovation in the Volvo 9700 is the introduction of a new generation Independent Front Suspension (IFS). The IFS allows each front wheel to move independently, resulting in a smoother and quieter ride, particularly on long-distance journeys.
Combined with Volvo Dynamic Steering (VDS), the new suspension system enhances directional stability at highway speeds, reduces sensitivity to crosswinds and minimizes steering corrections, helping to reduce driver fatigue. The system also enables the use of a smaller steering wheel, a feature appreciated by many drivers.
Fuel efficient, flexible and safe
The Volvo 9700 is powered by Volvo’s reliable 13-liter engine, available in 420 hp, 460 hp and 500 hp versions, available for biofuel (B100) and paired with the latest version of Volvo’s 12-speed I-Shift automated transmission for optimized fuel efficiency and drivability.
Built for flexibility, the Volvo 9700 can be configured to suit a wide range of operational requirements. The coach is available in three lengths, 12.4, 13.1 and 13.9 meters, in 4×2 and 6×2 configurations, and offers multiple seating layouts designed to maximize passenger comfort while optimizing capacity.
Passenger wellbeing remains a core focus. The interior features spacious seating options, durable premium materials and a comfortable environment for long-distance travel.
Safety is integrated throughout the vehicle. The Volvo 9700 is equipped with advanced driver assistance systems designed to help prevent accidents and improve road safety. Passenger seats can be fitted with three-point seatbelts throughout the coach, while ISOFIX anchor points, booster cushions and integrated rearward-facing child seats are available to support safer travel for younger passengers.
