Some of the new orders announced by Grimaldi Group last October at the Euromed Convention have already resulted in signed contracts.
Shipowner Emanuele Grimaldi announced the news to SHIPPING ITALY, explaining that two representatives of the new generation, Dario Bocchetti and Luigi Pacella Grimaldi, actually signed the agreements in China. “We have signed a LOI (letter of intent) with China Merchants for the next generation of five 10,000 CEU Pure Car Truck Carrier and multipurpose vessels, and another five 11,000 CEU newbuildings with the GSI – Guangzhou Shipyard International shipyard. Both projects also include additional capacity for container and rolling cargo transport. This agreement allows us to move from the design (prototype) phase to the engineering phase, which will take six months, while deliveries are scheduled for 2030 and 2031.”
But Grimaldi Group’s shopping list doesn’t end there: “Because we have also commissioned a tenth ferry (an investment of 160 million euros) from China Merchants Jinling Shipyard (Weihai), a company also part of the China Merchants Group, which will be destined for Grimaldi Trasmed and will be added to the other 9 already ordered for Grimaldi Euromed, Minoan Lines and Finnlines ” in recent years.
This investment plan, “with a total value of more than 4 billion euros”, will also include other newbuildings because “my brother Gianluca – Emanuele Grimaldi finally specified – is in very advanced negotiations with three shipyards, the Korean Hyundai and the Chinese China Merchants and Gsi, for a new series of con-ro ships of the G6 series, the ones we had announced at the Euromed Convention even though we wanted to keep their technical characteristics confidential”.
