Australia Post broke ground on its $500 million Parcel Super Hub in Adelaide, alongside the Hon. Nick Champion Acting Deputy Premier South Australia, Minister for Housing and Urban Development, Housing Infrastructure, and Pelligra Group Chairman, Ross Pelligra marking a major milestone in its largest-ever investment in South Australia.
Located at the former Holden site in Elizabeth, the new 83,000 sqm facility will bring fresh life to the iconic site with a next-generation Parcel Hub, representing a major investment in South Australia’s future and supporting deliveries across metropolitan and regional communities for decades to come.
Once operational in late 2028, the Adelaide Parcel Super Hub will be the first fully combined Australia Post and StarTrack facility with the capability of processing up to 400,000 parcels per day, doubling the current capacity of Australia Post’s Adelaide Airport Parcel Facility.
The facility will use advanced technology, including autonomous vehicles and robotic pallet movers, to reduce manual handling and improve team member safety. These robotic systems will help move pallets, cages and containers between loading, sorting and storage areas and assist team members with the induction of parcels into the sortation system for faster processing.
Australia Post Executive General Manager Network Operations Shane Plant said: “This facility will be the blueprint for our most technically advanced facilities, providing greater opportunities for team members to upskill technically, operationally and digitally. We’ll be looking for roles that support automation and controls, mechanical and electrical and those that can work alongside robotic systems as we continue to modernise our network.”
Pelligra Group Chairman Ross Pelligra said: “This investment is more than a development project, it is a long-term commitment in South Australia’s future. By revitalising a site that once stood at the heart of the state’s employment and manufacturing economy, we are helping create the next generation of industrial capability, jobs and opportunity.
We are proud to be partnering with Australia Post on a project that reflects confidence in the strength of South Australia’s industrial market and its growth potential. At Pelligra, we have always believed in developing assets that leave a lasting legacy, drive innovation and support the communities in which we operate. This investment is a clear demonstration of that commitment.”
